As simple and effective as onboard navigation has become on mobile hardware, Motorola believes thereā€™s still room for improvement.

The company has recently announced an investment in a firm called Sensitive Object (a spin-off of the French National Center for Scientific Research), who claims to have developed technology that can analyze acoustic waves from the point of contact on a screen, essentially giving any device touch screen capabilities.

According to insiders, touch screen technology is increasingly vital for Motorola as it attempts to close the gap between themselves and rivals Apple and RIM.

In addition to focusing on google Android equipped smartphones, Motorola hopes emerging touch screen technology will get the job done.
